20 Bodies Recovered So Far in Almora Bus Accident; Death Toll Likely to Rise
Almora(Utrakhand) : In a tragic accident in Uttarakhand’s Almora district, a bus (UK 12 PA 0061) en route to Ramnagar fell into a gorge on the Kupi motor road in the Salt tehsil area early this morning. So far, 20 bodies have been recovered from the gorge, with fears that the death toll may rise. Several passengers are reported to have been injured.
The 42-seater bus, operated by Garhwal Motors Users, had departed from Golikhal area carrying passengers. Rescue operations are ongoing at the accident site. Upon receiving the information, senior officials including SSP, Salt police station personnel, Ranikhet fire station, Salt tehsildar, revenue sub-inspector from Devayal, and the SDRF team arrived at the scene. District Disaster Officer Vineet Pal confirmed that 20 bodies have been retrieved so far. The Nainital police team has also joined the rescue operations, with local villagers actively helping in the efforts.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke with the Disaster Management Secretary, Kumaon Division Commissioner, and Almora District Magistrate to gather details on the incident and directed officials to expedite rescue and relief operations. An NDRF team has also arrived at the site to assist the SDRF in the rescue efforts.
