The current market size of the medical devices industry in India is estimated at $15 billion, and it is projected to reach $30 billion by 2030, representing a sunrise sector of the Indian economy. The medical devices industry is one of the fastest-growing segments within the healthcare market, and at present, various categories of devices—from consumables to implantable medical devices—are being manufactured in India.
The Indian MedTech industry is currently the fourth-largest medical devices market in Asia, after Japan, China, and South Korea, and ranks among the top 20 medical devices markets globally. This industry is poised for significant growth, driven by the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Medical Devices and the establishment of four ‘Medical Device Parks’ across the country. The Department of Pharmaceuticals is also formulating an India Medical Devices Policy, which is currently at the inter-ministerial consultation stage.
