US to Deploy Advanced Missile Defense System and 100 Troops to Israel

Washington: The United States has decided to send an advanced missile defense system to Israel, accompanied by around 100 American troops for its operation. This marks the first deployment of U.S. troops in Israel since the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, according to the Pentagon.

As reported by The New York Times, this move will bring American soldiers closer to a broader conflict in the Middle East. The deployed troops will operate a ground-based interceptor system designed to protect against ballistic missiles. The Pentagon made this decision following Iran’s launch of approximately 200 missiles, including ballistic ones, at Israel on October 1. Israel is currently planning a retaliatory response against Iran.

President Joe Biden confirmed on Sunday that he had ordered the Pentagon to deploy this defense system to Israel. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for a drone attack on a military base in northern Israel, resulting in dozens of injuries.
