Tradition and Development from Mithila: Dr. Dhananjay Giri

Madhubani (Bihar) :  During his visit to Madhubani, BJP spokesperson Dr. Dhananjay Giri interacted with media representatives and local people. On this occasion, he discussed in detail the recent GST reforms and the central government’s economic policies. He highlighted that by December 2025, the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) will be established. This will address the long-pending grievances of the business community caused by delays and complexities, marking a significant step towards justice, transparency, and swift resolution.

Speaking about women entrepreneurs, Dr. Giri said that the simplified GST framework and easier credit access will empower women-led MSMEs, enabling them to expand, innovate, and create jobs. This, he added, reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that “Nari Shakti is the driver of India’s progress.”

Dr. Giri remarked, “Today I had the privilege of bowing to the sacred land of Mother Sita. In Madhubani, the heart of Mithila, I was deeply moved by the warm welcome and the opportunity to engage on the themes of tradition and development.”

He further noted that while major global economies are trapped in recession, India is growing at 7.8%, emerging as the fastest-growing economy in the world. This, he emphasized, is not merely a tax reform but a historic step towards making India a developed nation by 2047.

Mithila’s cultural legacy and the central government’s development journey together will take Bihar and the entire nation to new heights.

Praising Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, Dr. Giri said that the decisions taken at the 56th GST Council meeting in New Delhi on 3 September 2025 will make the country’s economy more transparent, simple, and citizen-centric. He stressed that Mithila’s cultural tradition and the central government’s development drive will together elevate Bihar and the nation to greater heights.

He also appreciated Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s initiatives, especially exempting healthcare services from tax and reducing GST on life-saving medicines to zero—decisions that reflect the government’s sensitivity to the common man’s struggles. For farmers, the backbone of the nation, GST on tractors, irrigation systems, fertilizers, and pesticides has been reduced to 5%, lowering costs and boosting rural prosperity.

For households, relief has come in the form of cheaper everyday goods such as soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, bicycles, refrigerators, TVs, and washing machines. Aspirational youth too benefit, as reduced GST on small cars and motorcycles makes first-time purchases affordable, while also spurring job creation and industrial growth.

Infrastructure, a key priority of the Modi government, will get a push with GST on cement reduced from 28% to 18%, cutting housing costs and accelerating big projects. MSMEs, the backbone of India’s employment, are gaining from simplified compliance and faster refunds, unlocking fresh avenues for innovation and expansion.

Dr. Giri concluded that these reforms are not just about changing the tax structure but about laying the foundation of a “New India” where every segment—poor, farmer, woman, youth, and entrepreneur—becomes an active participant in nation-building.
