Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani to Make a Biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke
Mumbai : Dadasaheb Phalke is considered the ‘father’ of Indian cinema, and in his honor, the Government of India established the country’s most prestigious film award. Surprisingly, no one in Hindi cinema has yet portrayed the origin story of Indian cinema on the big screen. Dadasaheb Phalke’s story is one that every Indian should witness. Set during the time of India’s freedom struggle, this story revolves around an artist who, starting from nothing, faced every hardship to lay the foundation of the world’s largest indigenous film industry. The film is scheduled to begin shooting in October 2025. Aamir Khan will start preparing for his role right after the release of Taare Zameen Par 2. Meanwhile, a VFX studio in Los Angeles has already created AI-based designs keeping the era and setting of the film in mind.
Rajkumar Hirani, Abhijat Joshi, and two other writers, Hindukush Bhardwaj and Avishkar Bhardwaj, have been working on the script for the past four years.
Dadasaheb Phalke’s grandson, Chandrashekhar Shrikrishna Pusalkar, has fully supported the project and shared several key insights and events from Phalke’s life. Moreover, this film marks a new collaboration between Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan, who previously delivered cult classics and major blockbusters like 3 Idiots and PK. As such, this project is poised to set a new benchmark in the Indian entertainment industry.
