Anurag Kashyap Says He Made ‘Nishaanchi’ to Undo ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’
Mumbai: Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, in an exclusive chat with IMDb, revealed that his upcoming film ‘Nishaanchi’, starring debutant Aaishvary Thackeray, was made to “undo” the legacy of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. Kashyap said, “After Wasseypur, people think I invented swear words. I’m tired of being asked about Wasseypur 3.” He added that the film took a decade to materialize due to casting and studio delays. Interestingly, the project was greenlit during a chance encounter with an Amazon executive on a flight.
Calling Aaishvary Thackeray a “phenomenal talent,” Kashyap praised his acting, music, lyrics, and singing. “There’s a scene where he transforms from Babloo to Dabloo – it stunned us.” He described Nishaanchi as a love letter to classic Hindi cinema from the ’60s to ’80s, drawing inspiration from films like Mother India and Mughal-E-Azam.
Nishaanchi releases this weekend and promises a fresh take from the director known for redefining Indian crime dramas.
