Arunachal Minister Dasanglu Pul Meets Dr. Jitendra Singh, Proposes Key Biodiversity and Bioeconomy Projects

New Delhi : In a significant step towards sustainable development in the Northeast, Arunachal Pradesh’s Women and Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul met Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, on Friday to discuss strategic proposals aimed at biodiversity conservation and boosting the bioeconomy in the state.

During the meeting, Pul proposed establishing India’s first Ex-Situ Germplasm Bank in Arunachal Pradesh. The facility would focus on preserving rare and economically vital plant species, creating a national repository that would protect valuable biodiversity for future generations.

She also recommended the creation of an Eastern Arunachal Regional Centre for Bioresource Management and Development to utilize the state’s rich ecological resources in a sustainable and scientific manner.

To promote innovation and entrepreneurship, Pul pitched the idea of setting up a Bio-NEST Bioincubator at Roing, which would support biotech startups and research-based enterprises, offering local youth opportunities in cutting-edge technology sectors.

The minister further urged for the expedited release of core grant support for the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology (APSCS&T), highlighting staff-related challenges that need immediate attention.

“Our state is home to an incredible range of biodiversity, and we must act now to preserve it while building a strong foundation for scientific research and innovation,” said Dasanglu Pul.

She emphasized that the aim is not only to conserve natural wealth but also to transform it into economic opportunities for local communities, especially in tribal and remote areas.

Dr. Jitendra Singh welcomed the proposals and reaffirmed the Centre’s strong commitment to inclusive and sustainable development in the Northeast.

“The development of the Northeast has been one of Prime Minister Modi’s top priorities. Since 2014, the region has seen a remarkable transformation—from connectivity to technology and human capital,” said Singh.

He assured full support from the Ministry of Science and Technology and appreciated the proactive role of the Arunachal government in promoting scientific advancement and environmental sustainability.

The proposals are expected to play a pivotal role in balancing ecological preservation with economic development, making Arunachal Pradesh a model for biodiversity-driven growth in India.
