Atishi Becomes New Delhi Chief Minister After Kejriwal Steps Down
New Delhi: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. Recently released on bail, Arvind Kejriwal proposed Atishi as his successor. The proposal was unanimously accepted by AAP legislators. Delhi minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai confirmed the decision, stating that in a meeting of the legislative party, Atishi was chosen as the leader. Kejriwal is expected to submit his resignation later today.
Atishi expressed her gratitude to Arvind Kejriwal, calling him her mentor. She shared her mixed emotions, saying, “I am both happy and sad today. Sad, because my elder brother, Arvind Kejriwal, is stepping down. A man who left his IRS job to serve the people through politics is now being forced to resign due to false cases filed against him by the BJP. In my eyes, there is only one Chief Minister of Delhi, and that is Arvind Kejriwal.”
She further added, “I come from a simple family, and if I had been in any other party, I may not have even received a ticket to contest elections. But Arvind Kejriwal trusted me, made me an MLA, a minister, and now entrusted me with the responsibility of leading the city as the Chief Minister.”
Atishi also expressed her disappointment over Kejriwal’s resignation, accusing the BJP of harassing him with baseless cases. Nevertheless, she vowed to carry forward Kejriwal’s vision for Delhi with dedication and integrity.
