“Badd Mushkil Chhai” Staged in Mathili at NSD Auditorium
New Delhi: The two-day Maithili Theatre‑Literature Festival, held at the NSD auditorium in Mandi House, concluded on a high note with the staging of “Badd Mushkil Chhai” on July 19. Written by Roshan Kumar Jha and performed by Mailorang, the play drew a full house, delighting Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Jha, who served as chief guest and was notably impressed x.com.“I had no idea Maithili drama would be so well-loved,” he remarked, pledging to advocate for government support for Maithili theatre in Delhi and Bihar.
The festival began July 18 with panel discussions addressing Maithili drama at university level, its audience decline in Mithila, and its role in theatre training, followed by a cultural evening featuring performances by Sneha Jha and Dheeraj Jha. Santosh Thakur of the Maithil Journalists’ Group called the festival a “landmark step” toward elevating Maithili arts nationally, echoed by Manish Thakur of the Maithili Language Research Council.
