Bihar News : Nishant Kumar Likely to Take Charge of JD(U); Preparations Underway to Make Him Deputy CM

Patna: In a fast-evolving political development in Bihar, indications are emerging that Nishant Kumar may soon assume a key leadership role in the state’s ruling party. After holding discussions with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) met Nishant Kumar to deliberate on the party’s future course and organizational strategy.
According to sources, serious preparations are underway to hand over the leadership of Janata Dal United (JD(U)) to Nishant Kumar. In addition, discussions have reportedly begun about appointing him as Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister. However, no official announcement has been made so far.
Strategic Discussions Gain Momentum
Sources indicate that Lalan Singh and Nishant Kumar are discussing his prospective role within the party, the organizational challenges ahead, and the broader political landscape. Within JD(U), internal deliberations over a possible leadership transition have intensified. The party leadership is keen to ensure stability and maintain the confidence of grassroots workers during this sensitive phase.
Political observers believe that if Nishant Kumar formally takes over the party’s reins, his biggest challenge will be to keep the organization united and sustain credibility at the grassroots level.
Discontent Among Party Workers Continues
The developments come amid visible discontent among JD(U) workers following the announcement of Nitish Kumar’s possible move to the Rajya Sabha. Many party workers argue that they sought votes in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections in Nitish Kumar’s name, and the public mandate was clearly for him to continue leading the state government.
Supporters gathered outside the Chief Minister’s residence raised slogans, stating, “Nitish Kumar must listen to the voice of the people and party workers. We will not allow him to go to Delhi at any cost. The people made him Chief Minister—this decision goes against the mandate.”
Some emotional workers said, “Bihar is Nitish Kumar’s family. How can he leave the people of Bihar?” Demonstrations were held outside the CM House, with supporters demanding that the leadership reconsider its decision.
With Bihar politics at a critical juncture, the possible elevation of Nishant Kumar to a key organizational and governmental role could mark the beginning of a new chapter in the state’s political landscape. All eyes are now on the party’s official announcement and the next strategic steps.
