C-Lab and Amity University Haryana Sign Pact to Train Child Protection Professionals

Gurugram/New Delhi: In a significant step toward strengthening child protection systems in India, the Center for Legal and Behavior Change for Children (C-Lab), the research division of India Child Protection (ICP), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amity University Haryana (AUH).

The collaboration aims to institutionalize child rights, behavioral science, and mental health within an academic framework. Under the agreement, both institutions will jointly launch a range of certificate courses for professionals working in child protection and law enforcement agencies. They will also develop curricula and study materials tailored to the needs of the sector.

In addition to academic programs, the partnership will focus on advancing research and building expertise in areas related to child protection.

C-Lab was established by India Child Protection to build specialized knowledge and enhance the capacity of professionals working to ensure child safety and justice. Meanwhile, Amity University Haryana, a leading private university spread across 110 acres near Gurugram, was recently awarded the Excellence Award (Gold Category) by the Haryana State Higher Education Council for effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Sampurna Behura, Executive Director of India Child Protection, and Dr. Vikas Madhukar, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Amity University Haryana.

Highlighting the importance of the collaboration, Dr. Behura said the partnership would help bridge the gap between academic knowledge and ground realities. She emphasized that professionals in the child protection sector require continuous capacity building, practical exposure, and specialized expertise to effectively address complex challenges and ensure children’s safety.

Dr. Madhukar stated that the agreement aligns with Amity University’s vision of contributing meaningfully to nation-building. He noted that the courses would ensure that child protection and behavioral change move beyond documentation and play a practical role in enhancing the understanding and skills of professionals in the field.

As part of the agreement, C-Lab will take the lead in designing courses, providing practical training, strengthening research initiatives, and organizing awareness programs on child rights and protection. Amity University Haryana will offer academic support, assist in translating study materials, and collaborate in awareness initiatives.

The university will also recognize and affiliate C-Lab’s certificate course for “Support Persons” who assist in cases of child sexual abuse. This course, introduced last year, has gained importance following a 2023 Supreme Court directive mandating the appointment of a support person in every case of child sexual abuse.

This collaboration is expected to play a crucial role in building a more sensitive, skilled, and robust child protection ecosystem in the country.
