Tawang (Arunachal Pradesh) : Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated two new blocks — one academic and one administrative — of the Dorjee Khandu Government College, Tawang, marking a major milestone in the institution’s journey toward academic excellence and holistic growth.
Lauding the efforts of Principal Dr. Yeshi Gyetsen, the Chief Minister praised the college for its remarkable progress in academics and infrastructure since its establishment in 2016.
“With this new infrastructure, we take another firm step towards nurturing the next generation of thinkers, leaders, and change-makers from the mountains of Arunachal Pradesh,” Khandu said.
Highlighting the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, he reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening the education system based on the principles of access, equity, quality, affordability, and accountability. He added that all higher education institutions in Arunachal Pradesh are being upgraded in alignment with this national framework.
The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction over the college’s emergence as one of the most disciplined and result-oriented institutions in the state. “Discipline is the foundation of success,” he told the students. “Carry this value with you beyond the campus and into every step of your professional journey.”
Responding to a memorandum from the college principal, Khandu announced that the process for sanctioning additional faculty and ministerial staff is already underway. He also directed the Tawang Deputy Commissioner to coordinate with the principal on issues related to furniture procurement, boundary demarcation, and issuance of a land allotment certificate, assuring that necessary funds would be allocated for constructing a boundary wall.
Recognizing the role of sports in education, the Chief Minister proposed the development of a dedicated playground for the college near the Tawang Stadium and suggested repurposing existing structures in the area. He assured phased development of additional facilities in the coming years.
Khandu also extended heartfelt gratitude to the college community for honouring the legacy of his late father through the Karamveer Dorjee Khandu Merit Scholarship, sponsored by his family. He announced a significant enhancement in the scholarship amounts, increasing them from ₹35,000, ₹23,000, and ₹15,000 to ₹5 lakh, ₹3 lakh, and ₹2 lakh respectively for the first, second, and third position holders.
