CM Rekha Gupta Inaugurates Restored ‘Medieval Sheesh Mahal’, Calls it a Strong Symbol of “Development with Heritage”
New Delhi : Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, and MP Praveen Khandelwal, today inaugurated the magnificently restored ‘Medieval Sheesh Mahal’ located in Shalimar Bagh, Delhi.
This historic monument, now restored to its former grandeur, has been opened to the public with a fresh and elegant look. The preservation and restoration work was carried out successfully under the supervision of the Lieutenant Governor, and the project is a living embodiment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary campaign — “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi” (Development with Heritage).
On this occasion, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated, “The Delhi government is committed to preserving the capital’s rich cultural and historical legacy. Our aim is not only to protect such heritage sites but also to develop them into accessible, educational, and tourism-oriented centers.”
Sheesh Mahal to Become a New Hub of Heritage and Tourism
The Sheesh Mahal, with its roots in Mughal-era architecture, is one of the iconic landmarks of Shalimar Bagh in North Delhi. Following its meticulous restoration, the site is now expected to become a new highlight on Delhi’s tourism map.
The inauguration clearly reflects the joint commitment of both the Delhi and Central governments towards the conservation of India’s cultural heritage. The restored Sheesh Mahal stands as a shining example of this shared vision.
