Controversy in Rajya Sabha: Bundle of Cash Found at Congress Seat, Chairman Dhankhar Expresses Displeasure, Investigation Underway
New Delhi : A significant controversy erupted in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday when a bundle of cash was discovered at the seat allocated to Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi. The incident has triggered a political storm both inside and outside Parliament.
Chairman’s Stern Response
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar called it a “serious matter” and ordered an investigation. He stated:
“This matter has been brought to my notice, and I have ensured that a thorough investigation is conducted. Strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.”
Kharge’s Statement: No Names Until Investigation
Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, urged that no member’s name should be disclosed until the investigation is complete. He said:
“It is crucial that the investigation is impartial and transparent. Accusing anyone before establishing authenticity would be inappropriate.”
Singhvi’s Clarification
Congress MP and lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi defended himself, saying:
“I heard about this for the first time. It is absurd and unfortunate. Yesterday, I entered the House at 12:57 PM and left at 1:00 PM. After that, I was in the canteen until 1:30 PM. It’s clear that anyone can place something anywhere and make allegations. There must be an investigation to uncover the truth.”
Political Uproar
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey accused the Congress of involvement in the incident, while Congress termed it a “conspiracy” and strongly objected. The issue led to protests by Congress members in the Lok Sabha, resulting in the House being adjourned shortly after it convened.
During a routine security check in the Rajya Sabha, a bundle of cash was found at seat number 222, allocated to Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi as a representative of Telangana.
Political Accusations and Counterclaims
The incident has intensified political tensions during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament:
Congress’s Stand: The party alleges it is a ploy by the government to malign the opposition’s image.
BJP’s Accusation: The ruling party claims this is a corruption issue that demands a full-fledged investigation.
This incident has raised questions about parliamentary ethics and security. All eyes are now on the ongoing investigation to reveal the truth behind the matter.
