Coordination Meeting and Tourism Awareness Programme Held at Mago Village

 

Mago, Tawang (Arunachal Pradesh): A coordination meeting and tourism awareness programme was successfully conducted at the Village Community Hall in Mago, aimed at promoting responsible tourism and community-led development ahead of the proposed Shangrila Calling Tourism Festival.
The programme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Tawang, Namgyal Angmo, IAS, and attended by a host of dignitaries including Superintendent of Police Dr. D.W. Thongon, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jang Hakraso Kri,EAC Mago Thingbu Thutan Wangchu, Commanding Officers from the Indian Army units deployed at Mago sector, Commandant 4th Bn ITBP, Commandant NIMAS Dirang, and heads of work

departments from Jang and Tawang. PRI leaders and enthusiastic villagers of Mago also took part in the event.
Notable tour operators such as Shangrila Calling, La-Kora, Kes-Kar Homestay, and experienced local tour guides shared insights from their journeys, encouraging villagers to embrace responsible tourism. They lauded government initiatives supporting youth in self-employment and emphasized that the tourism sector, with sincerity and dedication, can be more rewarding than conventional government jobs.
Tenzin Tsamche, TIO Tawang, highlighted various government schemes and efforts for handholding aspiring entrepreneurs in the tourism sector. The session served as an informative and motivational platform for young villagers to explore sustainable tourism as a livelihood.
During discussions, SP Tawang Dr. D.W. Thongon underscored the need for proper

tourist accommodation with essential amenities and proposed logistical support for police personnel during the upcoming Shangrila Calling festival.
Addressing the gathering, DC Namgyal Angmo stressed the importance of active local participation in the tourism festival. “Such events must become community-driven and self-sustaining. The involvement of villagers, especially women entrepreneurs and self-help groups, is key to long-term success,” she said.
She urged the organizers to finalize a festival theme and ensure the inclusion of local food, traditional dances, and cultural performances, fostering a unique experience for visitors while showcasing the rich heritage of the region.

urgently.
Following the meeting, the delegation led by DC Tawang visited the proposed festival site near Chuna for an on-ground inspection and planning review.
This initiative marks a promising step toward making Mago Village a vibrant and responsible tourism destination, driven by the spirit and enterprise of its own people.
