Crocodiles to Be Released into River Narmada on October 30

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced that the state government is moving forward to fulfill its commitment to reintroduce crocodiles — the traditional vehicle of Goddess Narmada — into the sacred river. He said that the Narmada’s flow provides an ideal natural habitat for crocodiles. On Thursday, October 30, crocodiles will be released into the waters of Maa Narmada.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government is committed to the conservation of all forms of wildlife. He noted that the population of aquatic species such as gharials and crocodiles, along with other wild animals, has been steadily increasing in the state. It is noteworthy that gharial releases were conducted in the Chambal River last year. Dr. Yadav shared this information during an interaction with the media at Atal Path, Bhopal.
Dr. Yadav stated that a campaign is underway across the state to protect all wildlife species, underlining that Indian culture teaches mutual coexistence between humans and nature. He added that soon, the sacred river’s pristine waters will once again witness the graceful presence of crocodiles — the divine companions of Maa Narmada.
He assured that the crocodiles will be released only at carefully selected locations to ensure no threat to human safety. Their presence, he said, would be auspicious for Maa Narmada and would help in strengthening the ecological flow of the river.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav will be on an official visit to Narmadanagar in Khandwa district on October 30 for this occasion.
