Demand for Inclusion of Question Hour in Delhi Assembly Session Starting November 29
New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, has demanded the inclusion of a Question Hour in the upcoming Winter Session of the Delhi Assembly, scheduled to commence on November 29. In a letter to Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, Gupta pointed out that none of the assembly sessions held this year included provisions for a Question Hour. He emphasized that the absence of this crucial feature undermines the constitutional rights of elected representatives in a democratic system.
Gupta criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for not including a Question Hour in the upcoming session, which will be the fifth session of the Seventh Assembly. He highlighted that legislators are accountable to their constituencies and that the assembly provides a platform for raising issues and seeking solutions during the Question Hour. Without this provision, MLAs would be unable to bring their constituents’ grievances to the government’s attention.
In addition to the Question Hour, Gupta urged the inclusion of short-duration discussions and calling attention motions to ensure active participation of legislators in the assembly proceedings.
The Leader of Opposition called on the Speaker to uphold democratic values by ensuring that the upcoming session includes a Question Hour. This, Gupta said, would allow all legislators present in the House to raise issues concerning their constituencies effectively.
