Flood-like Situation in Varanasi Due to Rising Ganga Waters, NDRF Rescue Operations Underway
Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) : The continuous rise in the water level of the Ganga River has led to flood-like conditions in the low-lying areas of Varanasi. The administration and rescue agencies are working with full vigilance to provide relief to the affected population.
NDRF Intensifies Rescue Operations
DIG Manoj Sharma of NDRF Varanasi provided an update, stating, “The water level of the Ganga is expected to stabilize by this evening and may begin to recede thereafter. Relief operations are ongoing at full speed. Our teams are deployed in Ballia, Prayagraj, and Varanasi. In Varanasi alone, three NDRF teams are active, and over 150 people have been safely rescued so far.”
Minister Suresh Khanna Visits Affected Areas
Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna visited the flood-affected regions on Monday. He said, “I inspected the situation and interacted with local residents. People informed me that relief materials are being distributed adequately. This is a natural calamity, and cooperation from everyone is essential. The government is working diligently to manage the situation.”
Continuous Monitoring and Relief Measures
The administration has issued alerts in vulnerable zones and has accelerated the relocation of people to relief camps. Boats have been arranged along the riverbanks to ensure quick assistance in emergencies.
The rising water level of the Ganga is a cause of concern across Varanasi and several eastern districts of Uttar Pradesh. However, due to the swift and coordinated response of the administration and NDRF teams, efforts are being made to bring the situation under control. Authorities have urged the public not to fall for rumors and to follow official instructions strictly.
