Freedom Trail Concludes in Tawang with Spiritual Fervour, Honouring Dalai Lama’s Historic Entry into India

 

Tawang (Arunachal Pradesh): The second edition of the Freedom Trail concluded with deep reverence and enthusiasm at Pungteng-Tse, commemorating the historic and spiritual journey of 14th Dalai Lama into India in 1959, when he sought asylum and arrived in Tawang on April 5.

The six-day trek began from the serene valleys of Kenzamani, retracing the sacred route taken by His Holiness, Tenzin Gyatso. The trail was led by Lungla MLA Tsering Lhamu and witnessed enthusiastic participation and strong support from the people of the Lungla constituency.

Participants received a grand and heartfelt welcome at Kudung village, where an atmosphere of pride, devotion, and unity prevailed. The ceremonial reception of His Holiness’s portrait symbolised the region’s unwavering faith, resilience, and enduring cultural identity.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including ZPC Tawang Leki Gombu, ZPMs Tenzin Monpa and Sonam Nordzin, SP Tawang Tasi Darang, and Assistant Commissioner Tenzin Jambey, along with other community leaders.

A massive gathering from various villages, along with members of the Tawang Monastery, came together to honour this historic legacy, recalling the heartfelt reception extended to His Holiness by the people of Monyul in 1959.

Further strengthening the spirit of collective devotion, Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo joined officials and devotees on the trail from Drekhang Teng to Pungteng-Tse via Tawang Monastery.

The concluding ceremony at Pungteng-Tse saw participants who completed the full trek from Kenzamani being felicitated for their dedication, endurance, and spiritual commitment. The event was enriched by vibrant cultural performances from local troupes, showcasing the rich heritage of the region.

Congratulating the participants, the Deputy Commissioner praised their determination in completing the challenging six-day journey. The Abbot of Tawang Monastery offered blessings to the gathering, adding a profound spiritual dimension to the occasion.

The Freedom Trail stands as a living tribute to history, faith, and unity—celebrating a legacy that continues to inspire generations.
