Happy Imams, who received their pending salaries, gave a warm welcome to Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor
New Delhi: Imams and Moazzins appointed at Delhi Waqf Board mosques today gave a grand welcome to Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Vinay Kumar Saxena, at the Anglo Arabic Senior Secondary School in Ajmeri Gate. This event was organized to thank the Lieutenant Governor after the release of the pending 18 months’ salary for the imams and moazzins of the Delhi Waqf Board. During the occasion, a request was made to the Lieutenant Governor to create a solid strategy to ensure that imams’ salaries do not get delayed in the future.
The event was attended by a large number of social workers, ulema, and intellectuals from the area, in addition to the imams and moazzins of the Delhi Waqf Board.
During the event, the Lieutenant Governor expressed his happiness at the warm welcome and mentioned that due to the ongoing assembly elections in Delhi, no statements could be made on certain matters. He assured that after the elections, a concrete strategy would be developed to address the issue and that the demands would be seriously considered.
It is noteworthy that the imams and moazzins of the Delhi Waqf Board had been facing severe distress due to the non-payment of their salaries for the past 18 months. They were unable to pay their children’s school fees and even struggled to provide for their families. In their desperation, they had approached Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, protesting at their residences, but their concerns went unheard.
The event’s organizer, Hafiz Javed, explained that the salaries of nearly 250 imams and moazzins appointed at the Delhi Waqf Board mosques had been pending for the last 18 months. With the Lieutenant Governor’s intervention, their salaries were finally released, which is why the imams and moazzins gathered today to thank and welcome him. He further stated that the Lieutenant Governor assured them that efforts would be made to ensure that the salaries of imams are not delayed in the future.
He shared that the non-payment of salaries had caused them great distress, and they were left wandering with no resolution. However, after the intervention of the Lieutenant Governor, they are now happy to receive their salaries. The event was attended by Mufti Mohammad Qasim Qasmi, Maulana Arshad Qasmi, Mufti Nisar, Maulana Qasim Rahimi, Maulana Jameel, Maulana Sajid Rashidi, Mufti Javed Anwar, Maulana Javed Siddiqui, Maulana Nasruddin, and others.
