Healthcare Services Crippled in Bihar as Intern Doctors Go on Strike

Patna (Bihar): Intern doctors across all government hospitals in Bihar, including Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), have gone on strike, bringing OPD services to a complete halt. The strike has severely affected patients and their families who depend on these facilities for treatment.

The striking interns stated that they currently receive a monthly stipend of ₹20,000, but are demanding it be increased to ₹40,000 per month.
They alleged:

“The stipend is supposed to be revised every three years, but the government has failed to do so. Despite multiple meetings with the Health Minister, we have received only assurances and no action.”

With OPD services suspended, patients from various districts are facing immense difficulties. Many have been left waiting for hours without consultation, and those suffering from serious conditions are at risk of further deterioration.

The interns have made it clear that the strike will continue until their demands are met, leaving OPD services paralysed.
