Imphal (Manipur): Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, unveiled the new brand name and logo of Manipur Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd – ‘Manipur Dairy’ at Raj Bhavan, Imphal on 17th September 2025. The rebranding marks a new identity for Manipur Dairy, reflecting its renewed focus on serving both farmers and consumers under the professional management of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Present at the event were Shri Puneet Kumar Goel, Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur; Dr Meenesh Shah, Chairman, NDDB; senior officials from the Government of Manipur, NDDB, Manipur Dairy, and women dairy farmers from cooperative societies.
During the event, the Hon’ble Governor also launched new milk variants – Cow Special Milk (500 ml) and Health Plus Double Toned Milk (150 ml) – along with a range of value-added dairy products including Probiotic Curd (400 gm & 100 gm), Special Lassi (200 ml), and Cow Ghee (250 gm & 500 gm). These products aim to meet the evolving tastes and health requirements of consumers in Manipur while ensuring better returns for milk producers.
In addition to the brand and product launches, Shri Bhalla virtually inaugurated key initiatives such as NDDB’s Automated Milk Collection System (AMCS) and Dairy ERP platform at Manipur Dairy, designed to improve transparency, quality-based milk procurement, and financial inclusion through direct digital payments to farmers’ bank accounts. He also inaugurated a 2 KL Bulk Milk Chilling Centre at Kakching, which will enhance milk quality preservation and expand rural procurement. Furthermore, he announced the formation of five new all-women Dairy Cooperative Societies in Kakching district under White Revolution 2.0, equipped with Automated Milk Collection Units (AMCU) and digital banking facilities to empower rural women, foster entrepreneurship, and strengthen community participation in dairying.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Bhalla expressed satisfaction at the rapid progress made in Manipur’s dairy sector under NDDB’s management. He highlighted Manipur’s potential for dairying given its favorable agro-climatic conditions and a cattle population of about 2.6 lakh. He praised the Government of Manipur for its bold step of handing over management of the Manipur Milk Union to NDDB in April 2025, calling it a turning point for the cooperative dairy movement in the state.
Shri Bhalla emphasized that in a short span, NDDB has initiated reforms and programs already showing results. These include launching new products, establishing women’s dairy cooperatives, digitizing procurement, and expanding infrastructure – steps expected to enhance farmer incomes, improve nutrition security, and promote rural prosperity in Manipur.
Dr Meenesh Shah, Chairman, NDDB, reaffirmed NDDB’s commitment to the Manipur Milk Union. He highlighted financial and technical support provided under the Revitalising Promising Producer-Owned Institutions (RPPOI) scheme, including a grant of Rs 3 crore and an interest-free loan of Rs 5 crore, which has helped clear pending farmer dues, upgrade processing facilities, and provide working capital. Senior NDDB officers have been stationed in Imphal to ensure professional governance, operations, and product diversification.
Dr Shah also noted NDDB’s broader support, including waived management fees, training and exposure visits for Manipur officials to successful dairies in Anand, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, and the adoption of best practices in fodder development, animal health, and manure management. By October 2025, Manipur Dairy will begin supplying milk to the Assam Rifles, linking dairy development with national service, ensuring nutrition for armed forces, and creating a stable market for farmers.
Under NDDB’s guidance, steps are being taken to strengthen retail presence, including setting up ‘Milk & More’ booths across Imphal and other towns to enhance visibility and consumer access. The rebranding of Manipur Dairy is expected to build stronger consumer trust and establish the cooperative as a reliable supplier of pure, nutritious dairy products. This initiative marks a significant step toward achieving self-reliance in milk production in Manipur while promoting sustainable livelihoods and ensuring quality nutrition for the state’s population.
