International Women’s Day Celebration – ASMITA League Organised by MY BHARAT Papumpare, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India

Papumpare (Arunachal Pradesh) : Mera Yuva BHARAT Papumpare, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, successfully organized a Women’s Athletics Tournament under the ASMITA League (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action) on the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8th March 2026 at Golden Jubilee Outdoor Stadium, Yupia, Papumpare District.

The ASMITA League is an initiative aimed at encouraging women’s participation in sports and creating opportunities for young girls and women to showcase their sporting talent at the grassroots level.

The program was graced by Mrs. Toko Muni Taba, Headmistress of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Abasiya Vidyalaya, Yupia, as the Chief Guest. The Special Guest for the occasion was Ms. Bengia Yakar, Assistant Commissioner-cum-Deputy Director, Rural Development Department, Papumpare. Other distinguished dignitaries present included District Sports Officer Takar Dotang, Mr. Kipa Bharat, Senior Football Coach, and Mr. Abhishek Mandal, Deputy Director, MY BHARAT.

The program began with a welcome address by Youth Leader Mr. Rigio Rovi, who welcomed the dignitaries, officials, and participants. This was followed by a brief introduction of the ASMITA League and description of the tournament by Deputy Director MY BHARAT, Mr. Abhishek Mandal, who highlighted the importance of the initiative in promoting sports among women and informed the participants about the various competitions being organized.

The tournament included athletics events such as 100m, 200m, and 400m races for Under-13, 13-18 years, and Above-18 years categories. In addition, fun events such as Lemon and Spoon Race and Bun Eating and Running Race were also organized to encourage wider participation and create a joyful and inclusive sporting environment.

In her address, Chief Guest Mrs. Toko Muni Taba delivered a motivational and inspiring speech on the significance of International Women’s Day, highlighting the importance of women empowerment, gender equality, and participation of women in sports and leadership roles. She encouraged young girls to believe in their abilities, stay confident, and actively participate in sports and education to build a strong and independent future. She also appreciated the initiative of MY BHARAT for organizing the ASMITA League and providing a platform for girls and women to showcase their talents.

The tournament was efficiently managed by the technical team from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) consisting of Rikam Laiung, Jivan Biswas, Tyson Natung, Gayki Rie, Tagio Liyak, and Nisha Upadhyay, who ensured the smooth conduct of the event and organized the tournament in a befitting manner.

From the MY BHARAT team, Mr. Subhash, Ms. Maryom Ete (YMC Club Chairman),Takam Dominic president All Arunachal Youth for nature response youth club and Ms. Nita Lama were also present and actively contributed to the successful conduct of the program.

All winners were felicitated with medals, certificates, MY BHARAT T-shirts, and badges, which were distributed by Deputy Director MY BHARAT Mr. Abhishek Mandal and PET Teacher Ms. Tara Techi of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Abasiya Vidyalaya, Yupia.

The program concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation from girls and women across the district, reflecting the spirit of International Women’s Day and the vision of the ASMITA League to empower women through sports and action.
