IPL 2025: Mumbai Defeat Delhi with Run-Out Hat-Trick, Register First Win

New Delhi: Mumbai Indians broke their losing streak in IPL 2025 by defeating Delhi Capitals by 12 runs, securing their first victory of the season. The match, played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, saw Mumbai post a formidable 205-run total while batting first. In response, Delhi could only manage 193 runs, falling short despite a strong middle-order stand. The turning point came in the 19th over, when Mumbai pulled off a hat-trick of run-outs, sealing the game in dramatic fashion.

While chasing the 206-run target, Delhi suffered an early blow on the very first ball as Jake Fraser-McGurk was dismissed. However, Abhishek Porel and Karun Nair steadied the innings with a 119-run partnership off 61 balls. Porel was dismissed for 33, while Nair, making a return to the IPL after three years, played a sensational knock of 89 runs. When Nair was dismissed, Delhi needed just 71 runs from 50 balls, and victory seemed within reach.

But Mumbai’s spinners and pace combination turned the tide. By the end of 18.3 overs, Delhi were at 192/7, needing just 14 runs from 9 balls. That’s when the drama unfolded: three consecutive run-outs in the 19th over crushed Delhi’s hopes and overshadowed Nair’s brilliant effort. Delhi were bowled out in 19 overs, just 13 runs short.

For Mumbai, Karn Sharma claimed 3 wickets and Mitchell Santner picked up 2. Deepak Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah took one wicket each.

Earlier, after losing the toss, Mumbai posted 205 runs thanks to some explosive batting. Tilak Varma scored a blistering 59 off 33 balls, while Naman Dhir smashed 38 off just 17 balls, with the duo adding 62 runs in 33 balls. Before that, Suryakumar Yadav (40) and Ryan Rickelton (41) laid a solid foundation.

From Delhi’s side, Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam picked up 2 wickets each, while Mukesh Kumar took one.

This match not only brought Mumbai their first win of IPL 2025, but also showcased one of the most thrilling finishes of the season so far.
