Jagannath Temple Priest Murdered in Puri, CCTV Captures Chilling Crime
Bhubaneswar (Odisha): A shocking case of murder has surfaced from Puri, Odisha, where Jagannath Dixit, a senior servitor at the Shree Jagannath Temple, was found dead under mysterious and violent circumstances. Dixit served as a ‘Supakar’ (temple cook) and was considered a respected figure within the temple community.
The incident occurred in the Gudiya Sahi area of Puri, where his blood-soaked body was discovered near the residence of Narayan Patjoshi in Rabeni Chowda. The gruesome act was caught on CCTV footage, which clearly shows a person dumping Dixit’s body on the roadside.
Locals allege that the man seen in the footage is Narayan Patjoshi, who reportedly killed Dixit over a monetary dispute. The murder, taking place in broad daylight and within a heavily guarded area, has sparked panic and outrage in the locality.
Upon receiving the information, Puri City DSP Prashant Kumar Sahu and the Town Police Station in-charge rushed to the spot and began an investigation. A forensic team has collected crucial samples from the scene, while the body has been sent for post-mortem at the Puri District Headquarters Hospital.
Puri SP Vineet Agrawal stated that initial investigations suggest personal enmity as the motive behind the murder. He confirmed that the CCTV footage has been taken into custody and that a complete investigation will reveal the exact reason behind the crime.
The incident has triggered widespread anger and concern among both devotees and local residents. Police officials have assured that the culprit(s) will be arrested soon.
