Kusmunda Mine Shut Down in Korba, Land Displaced Begin Strike

Korba (Chhatisgarh): Coal transportation at the Kusmunda mine of SECL (South Eastern Coalfields Limited), located in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district, has been halted since 6 AM on Tuesday as land-displaced villagers began an indefinite strike. The protest is being led by the Chhattisgarh Kisan Sabha and the Bhoo Visthapit Rojgar Ekta Sangh, with participation from displaced families of the Kusmunda, Gevra, Deepka, and Korba mining regions.

The key demands raised by the organizations include:

Immediate resolution of pending employment cases for displaced persons

Provision of jobs to affected individuals in outsourced works

Proper resettlement for all displaced families

Basic amenities in resettlement villages

Return of land to farmers in Khamhariya

Stopping deductions in compensation under old and new landholder names

Due to the strike, coal transport from the Kusmunda mine has come to a complete standstill, which is likely to impact both production and supply operations.

The displaced villagers have declared that the strike will continue until their demands are fulfilled. Leaders of the Chhattisgarh Kisan Sabha and Bhoo Visthapit Rojgar Ekta Sangh have warned that the movement will be intensified if immediate action is not taken. The protesters have urged both the government and SECL management to act swiftly and resolve their long-standing issues.
