Landslide in Dharali: Army Rescues 20 People, PM Modi Expresses Condolences

Dehradun/ New Delhi : A major landslide occurred today around 1:45 PM near Dharali village in Uttarkashi district, approximately 4 kilometers from the Indian Army camp located in Harsil. Soon after the disaster struck, Indian Army personnel launched a prompt rescue and relief operation.

So far, around 15 to 20 people have been safely rescued. The injured have been admitted to the Army medical center in Harsil for primary treatment. Rescue and relief operations are still underway.

On behalf of the state government, the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary, the Commissioner of Garhwal division, and other senior officials are monitoring the situation from the State Disaster Operations Centre (SDOC) in Dehradun.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed sorrow over the incident and offered his condolences to those affected. In a tweet, he stated:

“I express my condolences to all those affected by the tragedy in Dharali, Uttarkashi. I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being. I have spoken to Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami ji and taken stock of the situation. Rescue and relief teams are making every possible effort under the supervision of the state government. No stone is being left unturned in delivering aid to the people.”

In addition, the Badrinath National Highway (NH-58) has been blocked due to heavy debris near Pagalnala and Bhanerpani. According to Chamoli Police, debris removal and traffic restoration work is underway on a war footing.

This region, prone to natural disasters such as landslides and cloudbursts, has once again witnessed the swift and commendable response of relief agencies.
