Light Rain and Snowfall Likely in Jammu and Kashmir for the Next Three Days

Srinagar (J & K): Most parts of Jammu and Kashmir recorded minimum temperatures several degrees below freezing point. Drass recorded the lowest temperature on Monday at -18.8°C. According to weather forecasts, from January 20 to 23, Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, will experience rainy weather. Higher altitudes are expected to witness snowfall, while plains are likely to see light rainfall.

An official from the Srinagar Meteorological Department reported the following minimum temperatures: Srinagar at -3.2°C, Qazigund at -3.0°C, Pahalgam at -6.4°C, Kupwara at -1.4°C, Kokernag at -2.4°C, and Gulmarg at -5.4°C. Sonamarg recorded -6.7°C, Budgam -3.9°C, Ganderbal -2.4°C, and Pulwama -4.3°C.

In South Kashmir, Anantnag registered -2.8°C, Khudwani -4.7°C, Kulgam -3.0°C, Shopian -5.0°C, and Larnoo -5.6°C.

In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded 9.6°C, Banihal 0.7°C, Batote 3.9°C, and Katra 10.2°C. Bhaderwah reported 2.0°C, Kishtwar 2.9°C, Paddar -6.0°C, and Ramban 6.5°C. Meanwhile, Poonch recorded 4.4°C, Rajouri 3.7°C, Samba 7.5°C, Kathua 10.5°C, Reasi 7.4°C, and Udhampur 6.1°C.

In Ladakh, Leh recorded -7.8°C, Kargil -12.4°C, and Drass -18.8°C.

The Meteorological Department has predicted rainfall over the next three days, starting this afternoon. An official stated that on January 20 and 21, the weather will generally remain cloudy with light rain and snowfall expected in some areas. On January 22, widespread cloud cover is expected, accompanied by light to moderate rainfall (in the plains of Jammu) and snowfall in many places.

Light to moderate snowfall is also likely in the higher reaches of the Chenab Valley and the Pir Panjal Range. On January 23, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with light rain in the plains of Jammu and snowfall in some areas.
