Maharashtra Government and Vantara Join Hands for Sensitive Return of Elephant Mahadevi
Mumbai: In a significant development regarding the ongoing controversy over temple elephant Mahadevi (also known as Madhuri), the Maharashtra government and wildlife organization Vantara have agreed to work together for her safe and sensitive return.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held a key meeting in Mumbai with senior officials from Vantara to discuss a legally balanced and emotionally sensitive route for the elephant’s return.
Following the meeting, CM Fadnavis tweeted that Vantara had extended full support to the state government’s efforts. He said, “Vantara has assured us that it will become a party to the petition being filed by the Maharashtra government for the safe return of elephant Mahadevi (Madhuri) to Nandani Math.”
Vantara officials clarified that their actions were solely in compliance with Supreme Court orders. Their intention was never to retain the elephant, but rather to ensure her immediate medical care, behavioral support, and overall well-being as directed by the court.
The Chief Minister also announced that “Vantara has committed to fully assisting the state in establishing a rehabilitation center near Nandani Math in Kolhapur district, at a location designated by the Forest Department.”
This decision reflects Vantara’s sincere adherence to judicial orders as well as its respect for the emotions of the people of Kolhapur. By prioritizing Mahadevi’s health, safety, and emotional well-being, Vantara has demonstrated a commendable balance between compassion and cultural respect.
This joint effort not only bridges law and sentiment but also promises a safe, loving, and dignified future for Mahadevi (Madhuri). For the people of Kolhapur, this marks a moment of emotional relief and joy.
