Major Step Towards Unity and Discipline in Armed Forces: Rules Notified Under Inter-Services Organisation Act 2023

New Delhi: In a significant move to strengthen unity, command efficiency, and discipline across the three branches of the Indian Armed Forces, the Government has notified rules under the Inter-Services Organisation (Command, Control and Discipline) Act, 2023, which came into effect from May 27, 2025, through an official gazette notification. The primary aim of the Act is to promote effective coordination, discipline, and streamlined administration within Inter-Services Organisations (ISOs). The legislation was passed by both Houses of Parliament during the Monsoon Session of 2023 and received Presidential assent on August 15, 2023. It officially came into force from May 10, 2024, following a Gazette notification dated May 8, 2024.

Under the Act, Commanders-in-Chief and Officers-in-Command of ISOs are empowered to exercise control over service personnel serving under them, ensuring discipline and administrative authority without altering the specific service conditions applicable to each branch of the armed forces. The newly notified subordinate rules under Section 11 of the Act are designed to facilitate the effective implementation of these provisions, thereby enhancing the operational and administrative efficiency of ISOs.
