Pune/Talegaon: A tragic incident occurred in the Talegaon area of Pune district when a bridge over the Indrayani River suddenly collapsed, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuries to 51 others. A Quick Response Team has reached the site, and rescue operations are currently in progress.
The incident took place last evening while several people were on the bridge. The collapse led to panic in the area, and the local administration quickly launched rescue efforts. Search and rescue operations resumed early this morning to ensure that no victims remain trapped.
Maval Tehsildar Vikram Deshmukh stated, “The injured are being treated in hospitals, and so far, no reports of missing persons have been received. Unfortunately, four people have lost their lives in the incident.”
The administration has deployed JCB machines, ambulances, and security personnel at the site. The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Talegaon and Pune for treatment.
The incident has sparked political uproar. Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) MP Sanjay Raut criticized the state government, questioning: “Ajit Pawar is the guardian minister of Pune — will he take responsibility for this accident?”
He also raised concerns over the maintenance and oversight of the bridge, implying that negligence may have played a role.
Following the incident, local residents have begun questioning the government’s handling of infrastructure safety. Many claim the bridge was already in poor condition, but no timely repairs were undertaken despite visible warning signs.
Now, all eyes are on how thoroughly the government investigates the incident and what actions are taken against those found guilty of negligence.
This heart-wrenching tragedy has shocked the entire region, once again highlighting serious concerns about the safety and upkeep of public infrastructure in the state.
