Meghalaya Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong on Raja-Sonam Raghuwanshi Murder Case: “Meghalaya is Safe, Don’t Jump to Conclusions Without Facts”

Shillong (Meghalaya): Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has issued a statement in connection with the high-profile Raja and Sonam Raghuwanshi murder case. Addressing the media, Tynsong confirmed that a total of five individuals have been arrested so far in the case.

He stated, “So far, four people had already been arrested, and the main accused Sonam Raghuwanshi surrendered in Uttar Pradesh, bringing the total number of arrests to five. We are currently in the process of bringing her to Shillong for further investigation.”

Tynsong also responded to allegations being made against the Meghalaya government and law enforcement. He said, “These days, some people are blaming the people and the government of Meghalaya for this incident. However, we have already arrested the accused. The truth will come out, and I am confident that one day they will withdraw their statements made against Meghalaya.”

He further clarified, “Meghalaya is a completely safe state, and people must not jump to conclusions without knowing all the facts and details. This only creates confusion and misunderstandings.”

Commending the Meghalaya Police, the Deputy CM said, “Our police force has done an exceptional job. Given the seriousness of the case, the police, the Chief Minister, and other members of the government have remained actively engaged. Many of us barely slept, as we were determined to solve this mystery as quickly as possible.”

On the same case, Vivek Syiem, Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills, said, “Once the team reaches there, they will arrest her and obtain a transit remand. Yes, it does appear that Sonam had a romantic relationship. Two teams of Meghalaya Police are in Madhya Pradesh, and one team is headed to Uttar Pradesh to bring Sonam back.”

He added, “It is true that she contacted her relatives, but that happened only after the raids. If you think logically, she had been hiding all this time. But after Raj Kushwaha and others were arrested last night, she suddenly turned herself in. That, in itself, says a lot.”

Tynsong’s remarks clearly indicate that the Meghalaya government is not only committed to bringing criminals to justice but also deeply concerned about protecting the state’s image on the national stage.
