Nitish Kumar to Enter Rajya Sabha, Oath on April 10; New Government in Bihar Likely After April 14

New Delhi/Patna: JD(U) chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will take oath as a Rajya Sabha member on April 10. According to sources, other newly elected members will also be sworn in on the same day. Nitish Kumar is scheduled to leave for Delhi on April 9 for the occasion.

As per information, after taking oath, he may return to Patna on the evening of April 10 or the morning of April 11. Following this, he is likely to resign from the post of Chief Minister. It is being speculated that a new government may be formed in Bihar after April 14.

In recent weeks, close aides of Nitish Kumar had indicated that under constitutional provisions, a person can continue as Chief Minister for up to six months even without being a member of the विधानसभा or विधान परिषद. However, such a scenario does not appear likely in the current situation.

Meanwhile, the Bihar Home Department has issued an order stating that Nitish Kumar will continue to receive ‘Z Plus’ category security even after stepping down as Chief Minister. According to the directive issued by the Special Branch, his security cover will remain unchanged after he assumes office as a Rajya Sabha member.

The decision was taken after reviewing his security requirements under the Bihar Special Security Act, 2000. The order directs the Director General of Police and the Special Branch to ensure the highest level of security.

It is noteworthy that ‘Z Plus’ category is considered the highest level of security in India, provided to top dignitaries such as the Prime Minister, President, and senior political leaders. This security cover includes personal security officers (PSOs), armed guards, escort vehicles, and round-the-clock surveillance, involving around 55 personnel.

Notably, Nitish Kumar was elected to the Rajya Sabha on March 16 and resigned from the Bihar Legislative Council on March 30. His entry into the Upper House is being seen as a sign of significant political developments in Bihar.
