Pakistan President Zardari Unwell, Admitted to Karachi Hospital

Islamabad: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has been admitted to a hospital in Karachi for a medical check-up. He is expected to be discharged soon. Following reports of his hospitalization, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif contacted President Zardari on Tuesday to inquire about his health.

According to Dawn newspaper, there has been no official statement from the President’s office or the PPP regarding the health condition of their co-chairman. However, media sources reported that President Zardari was brought to Karachi from Nawabshah and admitted to a hospital. A party insider mentioned that some medical tests were being conducted and that he would likely be discharged soon.

A statement issued by the Press Information Department confirmed that Prime Minister Shehbaz spoke to the President, inquired about his well-being, and wished him a speedy recovery. Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori’s office stated that he contacted President Zardari’s physician, Dr. Asim Hussain, to get updates on his health and conveyed his best wishes.

In October 2024, President Zardari suffered a leg fracture while disembarking from an aircraft. He was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment, where doctors applied a plaster cast after examination.

The 69-year-old President has faced multiple health issues in recent years. In March 2023, he underwent eye surgery in the UAE. In 2022, he was admitted to Karachi’s Dr. Ziauddin Hospital for a week due to a chest infection. According to his son and PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, he tested positive for COVID-19 in July 2022 but experienced only mild symptoms. A year earlier, he was hospitalized in Karachi due to fatigue caused by extensive travel.
