Pirith Chanting and Ceremonial Return of the Holy Devnimori Relics Highlight Enduring India–Sri Lanka Spiritual Bonds

Colombo / New Delhi : A solemn Pirith chanting and flower offering ceremony was held at the revered Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo, in honour of the Holy Devnimori Relics of Lord Buddha. The ceremony marked a moment of deep spiritual significance, reflecting the shared values of peace, harmony, and the enduring civilisational ties between India and Sri Lanka.

The sacred observance was attended by the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious & Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka, Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi and Deputy Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious & Cultural Affairs, Gamagedara Dissanayake; Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel; High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha; the Chief Incumbent of Gangaramaya Temple; and other distinguished dignitaries from both nations.

Following the ceremony, the Holy Devnimori Relics of Lord Buddha were formally escorted from Gangaramaya Temple to Bandaranaike International Airport for their return to India. The ceremonial transfer took place in the presence of senior dignitaries from both sides and reverred Monks, underscoring the close cultural and spiritual ties between India and Sri Lanka.

The Holy Devnimori Relics subsequently arrived in New Delhi, marking the successful completion of a profoundly sacred and historically significant journey. The ceremonial reception of the Holy Devnimori Relics in India reflected the deep spiritual and civilisational legacy they embody.

The visit and return of the Holy Devnimori Relics highlight the long-standing civilisational linkages between India and Sri Lanka and reaffirm the shared commitment of both nations to preserving and promoting Buddhist heritage and cultural cooperation.

Deputy Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi for making him a part of the official Indian Delegation for the noble job of exposition and return of Holy Devnimori Relics of Lord Buddha from Sri Lanka to India terming it as an extremely enriching spiritual experience, cultural awakening and heritage appreciation. He also thank the Sri Lankan Government, Officials of Ministry of Culture, Govt of India and the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, reverred Monks and members of International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) for all their support and cooperation for making the exposition and return journey of Holy Relics a smooth and successful one.
