PM Modi’s Address in Visakhapatnam: “Make Yoga a Mass Movement, ‘Me to We’ is the Soul of India”

Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh): On the occasion of the 11th International Day of Yoga, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a grand yoga event in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. He highlighted yoga’s global journey and its deep roots in India’s cultural heritage, stating, “Yoga unites, yoga brings the world together—it is a journey from ‘Me to We’.”

The Prime Minister congratulated Andhra Pradesh Governor Syed Abdul Nazeer, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, Union Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, and Nara Lokesh for the successful organization of the event. He also praised the ‘YogAndhra Campaign’, which witnessed participation from over 20 million people.

Recalling India’s Global Initiative at the United Nations
PM Modi recalled India’s historic proposal in 2014 to declare June 21 as International Yoga Day at the United Nations. “The support of 175 nations reflected a global consensus—not just for a resolution but for a shared commitment to humanity,” he said.

Yoga as a Medium of Global Partnership
Speaking on this year’s theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” the Prime Minister emphasized how yoga teaches us that we are part of nature. “When we learn to take care of ourselves, we also begin to care for our communities and the planet,” he said.
He added, “Yoga is the pause button that humanity needs—to breathe, to balance, to become whole again.”

Yoga: A Path to Peace and Balance
PM Modi called on the international community to make yoga a medium of global partnership. “Yoga should not just remain a personal discipline—it should be a global policy for peace, cooperation, and sustainability,” he asserted.

Scientific and Medical Validation of Yoga
The Prime Minister spoke about research at AIIMS and other institutes that demonstrates yoga’s benefits for cardiac health, neurological disorders, mental wellness, and women’s health. He highlighted that over 650,000 trained volunteers are now part of the Yoga Certification Board, and yoga instructors are being deployed at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the country.

Focus on Oil Consumption, Obesity, and Lifestyle
PM Modi reminded the public of his ongoing campaign to reduce oil consumption by 10%, urging people to adopt a healthier diet and incorporate yoga into their lives. He described this as a key step in fighting the global challenge of obesity.

Yoga as a People’s Movement
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister said: “Let us come together to turn yoga into a people’s movement—one that leads the world towards peace, health, and harmony. Let ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’ become a global resolve.”

He extended his heartfelt wishes to the people of Andhra Pradesh and yoga enthusiasts across the world on International Yoga Day.
