Prime Minister Narendra Modi Conferred with Cyprus’ Highest Civilian Honour
New Delhi/Nicosia: Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides has conferred Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the country’s highest civilian award, the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III. The prestigious honour is named after Makarios III, the first President of the Republic of Cyprus, and is one of the most distinguished recognitions bestowed upon foreign leaders.
While receiving the award, Prime Minister Modi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the President, the government, and the people of Cyprus. He remarked:
“This award is not just a recognition of me, Narendra Modi, but of the 1.4 billion Indians. It honours their strength, aspirations, and our rich cultural heritage, spirit of brotherhood, and the Indian philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’—the world is one family.”
The Prime Minister dedicated the award to the friendly ties between India and Cyprus, shared democratic values, and mutual understanding between the two nations. He said the honour symbolizes India’s unwavering commitment to peace, security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the well-being of humanity.
Modi further stated that he accepts the award as a responsibility to take the partnership between India and Cyprus to even greater heights.
