Public Security Bill – A Decisive Step Against Urban Naxalism: Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has termed the recently passed Public Security Bill in the state assembly as a decisive step against Urban Naxalism. He stated that the legislation aims to strengthen the internal security of the state and curb Naxalite activities in urban areas.
Speaking on the bill, CM Fadnavis said, “I am deeply satisfied that we have passed the Public Security Bill against Urban Naxalism. Just as the number of Naxals is steadily declining in forest and rural regions, we are now moving towards their complete elimination.”
He further clarified that the bill does not infringe upon democratic rights. “While approving this law, I made it clear in the Assembly that it does not take away the right to oppose the government. Peaceful protest and the use of all constitutional tools remain intact,” he said.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the bill is specifically designed to control Urban Naxalism and is not meant to curtail the rights of ordinary citizens.
The state government believes that as the influence of Naxalism weakens in rural and forest areas, it is equally important to dismantle its urban networks. It is in this context that the Public Security Bill was introduced, which is expected to strengthen law and order in the state.
With the enactment of this bill, the government will now be better equipped to crack down on urban extremist networks, their funding sources, and ideological support systems.
