Rajeev Kumar Sharma Appointed as New DGP of Rajasthan
Jaipur (Rajasthan) : The Rajasthan Government has appointed senior IPS officer Rajeev Kumar Sharma as the new Director General of Police (DGP). He replaces U.R. Sahoo, who recently retired and was appointed as Chairman of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC).
On Monday, the state government formally requested the Central Government to relieve Sharma from his current assignment at the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). The official appointment order is expected soon, with Sharma likely to take charge by Wednesday.
The state has also sought approval for his appointment from the Ministry of Personnel and the Ministry of Home Affairs. His tenure as DGP is expected to run until June 30, 2027.
A 1990-batch IPS officer, Sharma has served as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Jhalawar, Dausa, Rajsamand, Jaipur (Traffic, North), and Bharatpur. He has also held prominent positions such as Inspector General of the Bikaner and Bharatpur ranges, Director of the Rajasthan Police Academy, and Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
Sharma has been awarded the Police Medal in 2006 and the President’s Police Medal in 2014. Originally from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, he is widely respected for his administrative acumen and low-profile nature.
His appointment has generated considerable buzz in both bureaucratic and political circles, with reports suggesting that Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma had finalized his decision to appoint Rajeev Sharma as DGP several months ago.
