“Roots” Festival at Mahindra University: A Unique Initiative to Preserve India’s Cultural Heritage

Hyderabad : The Mahindra Group has launched the “Roots” festival at Mahindra University, Hyderabad, with the aim of reviving India’s fading musical traditions and folk art through the involvement of the younger generation. This inter-collegiate cultural festival is organized by students, for students, serving as a bridge between the past and the present. The festival focuses on reintroducing traditional music forms in a modern context to connect them with Gen Z audiences. A university-conducted survey revealed that 60% of students expressed a strong desire to preserve and creatively redefine India’s cultural heritage. Vice Chancellor Dr. Yajulu Medury stated, “This festival is not just about preserving the past, but also about making it relevant for the future.”

The Curtain Raiser, held on August 20, featured performances by homegrown artists from across the country, celebrating the richness of Indian musical diversity and setting the tone for the main event.
