Smoke Seen from Aircraft Wheels During Landing at Amausi Airport; DGCA Seeks Report, Saudi Airlines Asked to Respond

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) : The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken serious note of an incident that occurred on June 15 at Amausi Airport (Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport) in Lucknow, where smoke was seen rising from the wheels of a Saudi Airlines aircraft during landing. The DGCA has demanded a detailed report and has also issued a notice to Saudi Airlines seeking an explanation.

Aircraft Carrying 284 Hajj Pilgrims

The incident involved Saudi Airlines Flight SV-3112, which arrived from Jeddah with 284 Hajj pilgrims on board. Due to excessive water accumulation on the runway, special precautions were taken under aqua management procedures during the aircraft’s landing.

Pilot Changed Approach Upon Spotting Water on Runway

Sources said that as the pilot approached the runway, they noticed water on the surface and accordingly initiated landing under the aqua management protocol. This involved deploying the landing gear early and applying strong brakes upon touchdown, which led to visible smoke emanating from the aircraft’s tires. This caused a brief moment of panic among passengers and ground staff.

Flight Scheduled to Return on Tuesday

According to sources, the aircraft is scheduled to return to Jeddah on Tuesday, but DGCA clearance will be required before the flight can proceed. The DGCA has asked for a technical report, pilot’s statement, and details of aircraft maintenance from Saudi Airlines.

DGCA Initiates Technical Investigation

The aviation authority has launched a technical investigation into the incident to determine whether it was caused by human error, mechanical failure, or negligence in weather monitoring. If any lapse is found on the part of the airline, strict action could follow.

Passenger Safety Remained Intact

Fortunately, all 284 passengers on board were unharmed, and no injuries were reported. However, the incident has once again raised serious concerns about aviation safety standards.

This event highlights the critical importance of well-maintained runways, effective weather assessment, and functional technical systems, especially for international flights operating under unpredictable conditions.
