Songs of Paradise’ Trailer Released – A Tribute to India’s First Female Playback Singer
Mumbai : Prime Video has officially launched the trailer of Songs of Paradise, a heartfelt musical drama inspired by the life of Padma Shri awardee and Kashmir’s first female playback singer, Raj Begum. Starring Saba Azad and Soni Razdan, the film is a soulful tribute to a woman who broke barriers and carved a path for future generations of artists from the valley.
Directed by Danish Renzu and co-written by Niranjan Iyengar and Sunayana Kachroo, Songs of Paradise is presented by Excel Entertainment and jointly produced by Apple Tree Pictures and Renzu Films. The film beautifully captures the emotional and musical journey of “Noor Begum”, portrayed by Saba Azad (in her youth) and Soni Razdan (in later years).
The story follows Noor, a gifted young singer, who challenges societal norms and pursues her passion for music despite the constraints placed on women of her time. Set against the rich cultural backdrop of Kashmir, the film highlights courage, tradition-breaking, and self-discovery—brought to life with music composed by Abhay Sopori and vocals by Masrat-un-Nisa.
Speaking about her role, Saba Azad said, “Playing a character inspired by the legendary Raj Begum has been a unique and humbling experience. As a musician myself, I was unaware of her incredible contribution, and this film introduced me to her world and legacy. Songs of Paradise is a story of strength and freedom, and I can’t wait for audiences to experience it on Prime Video.”
Soni Razdan added, “The moment I read the script, I was deeply moved. Portraying older Noor was enriching—it reflects years of struggle, resilience, and cultural pride. This film is a celebration of Kashmir’s musical heritage and a powerful woman who made history.”
Songs of Paradise will be streaming soon exclusively on Prime Video.
