‘Spying Stars’ Selected as the Only Indian Co-Production in Busan Film Festival’s New Competition Section
New Delhi : Spying Stars, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda (I Am Kalam, Kadvi Hawa) and Cannes winner Vimukthi Jayasundara, has been selected for the newly introduced official competition section at the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). It is the only Indian co-production among the 14 films competing this year. The new section marks a major shift as BIFF transitions from non-competitive to official competition format. Films will vie for awards in five categories, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Jury Prize, and Artistic Contribution.
Panda described the film as a “spiritual journey,” while Jayasundara called it a “liberation film” exploring human identity in a machine-controlled world. The film stars Indira Tiwari, Kaushalya Fernando, and Samanalee Fonseka. Cinematography is by Ishit Narayan, music by Alokananda Dasgupta, and editing by Saman Alvitigala.
Spying Stars is the first in Panda’s new content slate under Eleeanora Images.
