Swiggy Launches India’s First Multilingual Voice-Based Commerce Service in Partnership with Sarvam

New Delhi: India’s leading on-demand convenience platform, Swiggy Limited, has announced a strategic partnership with full-stack sovereign AI company Sarvam to launch the country’s first multilingual voice-based commerce service. This new feature will be available across Swiggy’s food delivery, Instamart, and Dineout platforms, allowing users to place orders simply by speaking in their preferred language.

Under this initiative, Sarvam’s advanced AI capabilities have been integrated to enable seamless voice ordering. Customers can now order food or groceries just by speaking, with the entire process—from product discovery to ordering and payment—handled by AI.

The service is further strengthened by advancements in digital payments. Razorpay has enhanced the experience by becoming the first platform to offer secure and seamless agentic payments through UPI Reserve Pay.

A Digital Solution for India’s Linguistic Diversity

In a linguistically diverse country like India, most digital commerce services are still limited to a few languages. This collaboration between Swiggy and Sarvam is seen as a significant step toward bridging that gap.

The technology was demonstrated live at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, where a phone call-based ordering system for Instamart was showcased. Notably, users can place orders via a simple phone call without needing to download an app or even access the internet.

Additionally, Swiggy has become the first commerce platform to launch on Sarvam’s chat application Indus, enabling a conversational commerce experience for multilingual users.

Available in 11 Indian Languages

Sarvam’s voice models are trained on extensive datasets of Indian languages, enabling natural and accurate interactions in 11 languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Marathi. Users can now order food, book dine-out tables, and shop on Instamart using just their voice in their preferred language.

Leadership Perspectives

Swiggy’s Chief Technology Officer, Madhusudhan Rao, stated that the company aims to make its services truly accessible to every Indian by reaching users in their own language. He emphasized that this initiative strengthens Swiggy’s ‘India-first’ digital approach.

Sarvam’s Co-founder, Pratyush Kumar, said that India is a “voice-first” nation and that the next billion users will experience AI in their native languages. He described the partnership as a major step toward realizing that vision.

Razorpay’s Chief Product Officer, Khilan Haria, noted that the future of digital commerce will be more intuitive and user-centric, where AI understands user intent and completes transactions seamlessly.

Beginning of a New Commerce Era

This partnership marks the beginning of a new era in digital commerce in India, where language will no longer be a barrier but an enabler. The AI-powered, voice-based service is expected to simplify technology and play a key role in bringing millions of new users into the digital economy.
