Tata Power-DDL Launches ‘Solar Ambassador’ Initiative Under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

New Delhi: Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), the leading power utility serving nearly nine million residents in North Delhi, on Monday launched its pioneering ‘Solar Ambassador’ initiative to promote large-scale adoption of rooftop solar solutions under the Government of India’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

As part of the initiative, Tata Power-DDL has appointed 20 specially trained officials as Solar Ambassadors. These ambassadors will work closely with local communities to increase awareness and accelerate the adoption of residential rooftop solar systems across North and North-West Delhi.

The initiative was unveiled on National Youth Day at the TPSDI – CENPEID Green Energy Skill Centre in Rohini. The launch event was attended by Mr. Ravi Dadhich, Special Secretary (Power), Government of Delhi, along with senior Tata Power-DDL officials including Mr. Dwijadas Basak, Chief Executive Officer; Ms. Kiran Gupta, Chief – Customer Experience, Commercial, Government Affairs, EAC & Consumer Litigation; Mr. Praveen Agrawal, Chief – Human Resource, Industrial Relations, Facility Management & Health Services; Mr. Rahul Kumar, Head – Special Customer Management & Solar; and Mr. Shashank Sharma, HoD – G&I, NBS & Solar.

Aligned with Tata Power-DDL’s motto of ‘Community Empowerment Through Clean Energy’, the Solar Ambassadors will act as dedicated advocates for rooftop solar energy. Their key objective is to strengthen public understanding of the benefits of solar adoption and support households in transitioning to sustainable energy solutions.

All 20 Solar Ambassadors have undergone extensive training in rooftop solar technologies at the TPSDI – CENPEID Green Energy Skill Centre. Their responsibilities include educating consumers about the advantages of rooftop solar installations, promoting sustainable energy practices, and serving as a crucial link between government policies and nearly 1.5 million consumers within Tata Power-DDL’s operational area. Each ambassador has been provided with a distinctive jacket symbolising leadership, pride, and official recognition.

Introducing the initiative, a Tata Power-DDL spokesperson said, “Empowering young professionals with future-ready green energy skills is essential to driving India’s clean energy transition. The Solar Ambassador initiative reflects our commitment to nurturing youth leadership in sustainability while supporting the national mission of expanding rooftop solar adoption under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Through structured training and strong on-ground engagement, these ambassadors will act as catalysts for change.”

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ravi Dadhich said India’s clean energy transition depends largely on empowering the next generation. “Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the Government of India aims to create one crore solar-powered households across the country. While space constraints exist, it is crucial to optimally utilise every available rooftop. Initiatives like Tata Power-DDL’s Solar Ambassador programme help bridge policy intent with grassroots action,” he said.

Spearheaded by Tata Power-DDL’s Solar Group, the campaign seeks to enhance community participation and youth involvement in sustainable development, thereby contributing meaningfully to India’s national clean energy mission.

The Solar Ambassador programme reinforces Tata Power-DDL’s strong belief that community-led initiatives can drive inclusive, long-term value and accelerate the transition towards a resilient and self-reliant energy ecosystem.
