Tension Escalates on India-Bangladesh Border, BSF Fires Warning Shots

New Delhi :  Amid ongoing anti-terror operations along the India-Pakistan border, tensions have now intensified along the India-Bangladesh border as well. On Tuesday morning, the situation became tense in the Mankachar sector of Assam, when Border Security Force (BSF) personnel attempted to push back 14 Bangladeshi nationals who had allegedly crossed the border illegally into Indian territory.

The incident occurred near the Thakurbari area on the international border, where the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) reportedly opposed the repatriation process of the intruding citizens. During the standoff, a crowd gathered on the Bangladeshi side of the border, escalating the tension further. To control the situation, the BSF had to fire warning shots in the air to disperse the crowd.

Rahul Kumar Gupta, the Commissioner of South Salmara district, confirmed the incident and stated that an administrative investigation is currently underway. It is noteworthy that the Assam Police has recently intensified its crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the state. Several suspected infiltrators have been detained from different parts of the state for verification.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued fresh instructions to all states and union territories, directing strict legal action against illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar. The ministry has also instructed the Director Generals of BSF and Assam Rifles to strengthen the security measures along these international borders.

This recent incident highlights the increasing attempts of illegal infiltration along the India-Bangladesh border and the heightened alertness of Indian security forces. Such border incidents underline the urgent need for continued cooperation and dialogue between the two neighboring countries.
