This Is the Crowd at the Book Fair… Feet Sore After All the Walking

New Delhi: It was the final day of the World Book Fair, and being a Sunday, the venue was packed with visitors from early morning. From the entry gates to every hall inside, there was a continuous flow of people. Moving ahead was not easy, yet the faces around reflected more excitement than exhaustion. Many visitors were heard smilingly saying, “Our feet are aching after so much walking, but the fatigue feels pleasant when you are surrounded by books.”
With it being both Sunday and the last day, most people arrived with their entire families. Parents were accompanied by grandparents, children, and teenagers, turning the fair into a true celebration. At one stall, a father was helping his child choose a favourite comic, while at another, a mother and daughter were deeply engaged in discussing literary titles.
The most eye-catching sight was the large presence of children. Stalls featuring colourful books, picture stories, and children’s literature were bustling with young readers. This scene was truly heartening, proving that despite the digital age, children’s fascination with books remains alive. The joy in their eyes while selecting books and asking curious questions offered a glimpse of the readers of tomorrow.
Young people too displayed remarkable enthusiasm. Many were seen making the most of special discounts offered by publishers. Some carried books for competitive examinations, while others walked around with bundles of novels and non-fiction titles. The thought “If not today, there may not be another chance” was clearly visible on many young faces.

As the day progressed, fatigue inevitably set in, but the steps never slowed. This crowd was not just about numbers; it was a living reflection of the habit of reading, curiosity, and the pursuit of knowledge. The rush on the final day made it clear that a book fair is not merely a marketplace—it is a shared experience that connects families, generations, and ideas, where even if the feet ache, the mind returns deeply satisfied.
