Unique Initiative to Empower Rural Women Entrepreneurs; Special Workshop Organized in Dhar
Dhar (Madhya Pradesh) : In a unique effort to empower rural women entrepreneurs, a special workshop was organized in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, under the collaboration of Flipkart, the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), and Policy Watch India Foundation. The workshop, held at the PG College Auditorium in Dhar, aimed to promote products made by women from self-help groups (SHGs) on the Flipkart platform.
The event saw the presence of Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Mrs. Savitri Thakur, Flipkart’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Mr. Rajneesh Kumar, District Project Manager NRLM, Mrs. Aparna Sonakia Pandey, and Director of Policy Watch India Foundation, Mrs. Abha Mishra.
Speaking at the occasion, Mrs. Savitri Thakur highlighted the importance of such initiatives in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of creating two crore “Lakhpati Didis” (millionaire sisters). She emphasized the growing digital world and the role of e-commerce platforms like Flipkart in empowering women entrepreneurs. “The stronger the self-help groups, the faster India will achieve its goal of becoming the third-largest economy in the world,” she stated.
Mr. Rajneesh Kumar, Flipkart’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, elaborated on Flipkart’s achievements and their commitment to supporting self-help groups, rural artisans, and weavers across the country. He explained that Flipkart aims to provide women entrepreneurs access to expertise, resources, and nationwide market reach to enhance their business success. He shared that over 1.8 million self-help group women are already selling their products through Flipkart, making significant strides towards realizing PM Modi’s vision of creating “Lakhpati Didis.”
District Project Manager NRLM, Mrs. Aparna Sonakia Pandey, spoke in detail about the self-help groups and the positive impact of the Livelihood Mission on women’s lives. She appreciated Flipkart’s role in providing a digital platform for these women to market their products nationwide.
Mrs. Abha Mishra, Director of Policy Watch India Foundation, expressed gratitude to everyone involved in organizing the event, emphasizing its significance in bringing positive changes to rural communities.
Flipkart, through its “Samarth” program, is training women from self-help groups via NRLM, empowering them to showcase and sell their products in the online market. This partnership between Flipkart and NRLM aims to bring positive change to rural India, preserve traditional skills, and strengthen the role of e-commerce in empowering women.
