Violence Erupts in Chomu, Jaipur Over Removal of Stones Outside Mosque; Internet Suspended

Jaipur (Rajasthan): Violence broke out in the Chomu town of Jaipur in the early hours of Friday over the removal of some stones from outside a mosque, forcing authorities to fire tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. According to officials, police were attempting to remove stones from outside the Kalandari Mosque when a crowd gathered and began pelting stones at them.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m., leaving several police personnel injured. In a statement, the police said they were removing the stones only after obtaining consent from local residents, but a mob suddenly attacked the police team and started stone-pelting. The situation has since been brought under control.
Following the incident, additional police forces have been deployed in the area. Mobile internet and SMS services have been temporarily suspended for 24 hours until 7 a.m. on December 27 as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of rumours. Shops in the area remained closed after the early morning clashes.
Senior police officials, including Additional Police Commissioner Dr Rajeev Pachar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Hanuman Prasad Meena, and Additional DCP Rajesh Gupta, visited the area and appealed to people to maintain peace. They warned that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in stone-pelting and violence against the police.
