Weapons and Explosives Surrendered in Manipur Following Governor’s Appeal
Imphal (Manipur): In response to the Governor of Manipur’s appeal, people in Churachandpur and Imphal East districts voluntarily surrendered weapons and ammunition for the second consecutive day. This development comes as a result of awareness efforts by the district police, Assam Rifles, and CRPF.
On Sunday, police reported that a total of 16 weapons and ammunition were surrendered in Churachandpur district, including:
01 M-16 rifle
01 7.62 mm SLR rifle
02 AK-47 rifles
03 INSAS rifles
02 M-79 under-barrel grenade launchers
01 9mm carbine machine gun
01 55mm mortar
03 .303 rifles
02 single-barrel rifles
64 gelatin sticks
10 rounds of 60mm homemade mortar ammunition
17 rounds of AK ammunition
40 rounds of 5.56mm rifle ammunition
03 rounds of 9mm caliber ammunition
In Imphal East district, one weapon and a large quantity of ammunition were surrendered, including:
01 CMC carbine with a magazine
06 two-inch mortar shells
1,200 rounds of 5.56×30mm ammunition
2,200 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition
Authorities continue to encourage the surrender of illegal weapons to ensure peace and security in the region.
